Artist: Jan Van Couver |
Jan Van Couver (who was born as Hermanus Koekkoek, the Younger) was born in Holland in 1836. He was a painter of coastal and harbor scenes, marines and landscapes. He was taught by his father, the Elder. While his birth name is Koekkoek, he often signed his work as Jan Van Couver. He was the son of Hermanus Koekkoek, the Elder, and in order to avoid confusion with the paintings of his father, used the alias of Van Couver. Van Couver emulated the Dutch style of painting harbor and coastal scenes and his paintings are often small and charming and extremely well executed with great detail. He died in 1909. |
