Kurt Albrecht was born in Germany in 1884. He was a painter of landscapes and street scenes. While little is known of this artist’s life, it is documented that in 1909 and in 1910, Albrecht participated in the Great Art Exposition of Berlin and two of his paintings depicting everyday life was chosen to be exhibited. He apparently, at some time in his life, lived or traveled to New York City and painted wonderful city scenes, which have surfaced on the art market from time to time. In 2006, a retrospective exhibit was held in Berlin, titled “The Conquest of the Street” presented by Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, Germany. This exhibit included paintings of cityscapes by both French and German Impressionists by such greats as Monet, Pissarro and Toulouse-Lautrec and also included a painting by Kurt Albrecht. Albrecht died in 1964. |
