British (1836-1905)
Edwin Henry Boddington was born in London, England in 1836. He was the son of Henry John Boddington, also a noted painter. He primarily painted genre scenes and landscapes most often depicted with animals.
Boddington exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1853 to 1867 and more often at the British Institution and at the Society of British Artists, Suffolk Street.
His subjects were mainly views from the Thames. Boddington developed a very personal and recognizable style. His river scenes are usually painted in a calm evening light using a range of very dark greens and browns.
