Marcel Hess

Artist: Marcel Hess
Title: Still Life w/ Flowers
Medium: Oil on Canvas 20.5" x 17.5"

MARCEL HESS
(1878-1948)

Marcel Hess was born in Brussels; Belgium in 1878. He was a painter of flowers, portraits, nudes and figures. He was also an illustrator and sketcher.

Hess studied at the Academy of Brussels, Belgium as well as the Academy of Düsseldorf, Germany.

His art presented a very distinguished aspect, solid but nevertheless refined.  His portraits were highly regarded in his time as of the first order.  His number of effigies of women, writers and magistrates attested to his distinct manner of painting.  He also painted wonderful flower and still life paintings both with oils and pastels.

He is listed in the “Deux Siecles de Signature d’ Artistes de Belgique” translated as Two Centuries of Noted Belgium Artists which list only the finest Belgian artists.

Hess died in Grimbergen, Belgium in 1948.
