Claire Conant
Claire Conant developed an intense love of nature as she grew up on a farm on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Childhood years were spent along the Choptank River with an abundance of wildlife. Her desire to paint began here. After earning her Masters in Art History and travelling extensively, she took courses at the Art Students League and began painting in various mediums. She has studied with Plein Air Painters of America, Gary Fifer, Ken Backhaus, and most recently Marc Hanson. While she paints intuitively and considers nature to be her greatest teacher, she also studies the work of masters such as Metcalf, Hassam and Kensett.
Her work is often referred to as peaceful and serene, evoking a feeling of tranquility. She considers her painting a spiritual journey and hopes to convey the beauty of God’s creation. A resident of Connecticut, Claire paints on location throughout the Northeast and other travels. Her work has won awards and has been exhibited in galleries in New York City, Connecticut, Nantucket and New Jersey. Her paintings are in numerous private and corporate collections.
